If you’re anything like the rest of us, you probably don’t spring into action at the sight of ants unless you find them trailing along your kitchen countertops. It may seem impossible to get them out of the house especially when it’s spring or summer. For some reason, they always find their way back to cause more Delray Beach Pest Control problems. If we won’t do anything about it, they may take up permanent residence in your home.

How to Get Rid of Ants in Your House

  1. Understand the enemy.

You have to understand that the ants you see in your kitchen are not the real enemy. If you want a real solution to your ant problem, you’ll have to eliminate the ant who lays all the eggs and never leaves the nest – the queen. The worker ants you see bring her all the food she needs so that she can continue to reproduce. In other words, even if you spray the ones on the countertops, the queen in the nest will make more ants to take the place of those you killed.

  1. Follow the trailing ants.

The worker ants who gather food crumbs for the queen and the next generation of worker ants are your ticket into the ant colony. Follow where they go and don’t even think about spraying them.

  1. Set out an ant bait.

Let the workers find the insecticide bait along their trail. They’ll carry it back to feed it to the queen until she dies. Hold off cleaning during this time because you wouldn’t want to mop away the workers’ trail.

  1. Spray on the nest.

Once the worker ants lead you to the outdoor colony below the ground, drench it with an insecticide spray.

  1. Keep your house clean.

Don’t make it easy for the ants to find food or water in your home. Seal everything and make sure that all surfaces are clean.
